Technologies evolve at lightning speed, and CODEX is no stranger to implement such useful features as passwordless authentication via Scatter. Learn more about the secure way of setting up a CODEX account through Scatter application.
Diving into the theory, the Scatter passwordless authentication allows a user on our exchange to create an account without the need to register using an email and password. Instead, the application signs a random nonce generated by CODEX exchange and uses it as a token for passwordless authentication. It adds an additional security layer and eliminates the possibility of sensitive information leak, that occurs relatively often when an individual uses classic authentication ways.
If you are not familiar with Scatter, then read this section which covers necessary steps on the
installation process, otherwise, skip to CODEX Authentication with Scatter.
First of all, the application is available on multiple platforms such as MacOS, Windows, Linux
and can be downloaded from the official website. Once you download and install the app, it will
ask you to choose a new password for your account.
After you set up the password, you will be asked to save your seed phrase which can be used
later for password recovery. Follow the next step, read and accept the Terms and Conditions.
In application choose a folder where you’d like to store your encrypted private keys. And then create a new EOS Mainnet account.
Unfortunately, it requires to send 1.4004 EOS to the Scatter EOS address so that sufficient
computational resources could be allocated for your account upon activation. Once you made a
transfer, your account is ready for use on our CODEX exchange.
CODEX Authentication Via Scatter
In order to log in through Scatter, open up the codex.one website and click "Sign In". On the login page, you will see the Scatter logo. Simply click on it.
Then you have to click on the button "Sign in via Scatter", and in the popped up application window choose your newly created EOS account.
As it was described previously, CODEX generates a nonce which should be signed with your private key. Once the nonce gets signed, it becomes an authorization token, which is used to log in into the exchange with your Scatter account. Click the button "Allow".
That’s it! Now you are logged in into the exchange using Scatter account.
Please note, that trading account’s functionality doesn’t change if you use this authentication way, and it’s similar to the trading account that you could create using your email.
